No Bike in sight

I had a really funny conversation, yesterday, with the guy i called to know about my bike, it was something like this:

-Hi, i wanted to know what is the status of my bike box..bla bla( process number etc)

-Mr Sergio, the bike box is located and you will have it soon.

-Ok, so where is it?

-We know its not in madrid and not in Sao Paulo.

-OK, so when will i get it?

-Maybe today, maybe tomorrow.

The rest of the conversation isn’t worth mentioning :)

I’m pretty sure that don’t freakin know where the bike is, ill be here waiting for it but 2 days is just to much. I haven’t had a ride since Sunday and i may say that I’m getting really upset about it.

Anyway, yesterday run was good and today´s swim was pretty nice too, the weather isn’t quite my liking but that is just minor right now, i have more to worry about.

Breakfast is just unbelievable good, i know i said this before

DAY one…

Good stuff bad stuff.
My initial 21h of traveling where expected to almost 30h. In the way, they lost my bike box, somewhere from Madrid to São Paulo and still don’t have it with me, i normally freak out a bit when things don’t go as planed but this time I’m hanging OK, don’t know how i will feel if i don’t have bike today. From São Paulo to florianapolis was another never ending story, had to change airport  and then wait for the weather to calm down so that the plane could leave.
So yesterday i arrived pretty late to Florianopolis Airport and had to skip swim and bike(no bike of course) so i went for a 50 min run and felt OK actually. I have to thank the canucks that where in my home for the advice of using compression socks, It worked PRETTY darn well and my feet didn’t swell as they usually do, when i have overseas flights. I got into a pace that i would guess was a race pace, with Km markers i was running at 3:55, i thought to my self that i just needed to hold another 2h in that pace and i would have a great race, my race pace “feeling” is fine tuned.
Then i went for dinner with Cathy and Monica, was nice to see Cathy Again and nice to meet Monica.
Today I went for a 50 min swim, i can dress my nineteen wetsuit at the room and walk to the beach, how cool is that!!! I felt good in a 20 min Zn3 effort. Then a magnificent breakfast and a log into the Internet for updates.
For now i wait patiently for my bike and will go out for a run before lunch.
A special Thanks to Latin Sports that is “taking care” of me since i arrived to the airport. This is a Beautiful place just amazing and people are very friendly and chicks are hot :)

IM Lanzarote, tink twice

I have been following IM Lanzarote very closely today. I usually follow all the Ironman Events but this one of course was one of my doubts after IMAZ.
Seems like Eneko will grab this one, he was my pre race favorite. I wonder how would i do if i raced there, HMMMMMM 7 slots!!!!
But i think that Most of the IM coverage needs to step up in quality. Text Updates (no live video) are a thing of the past, period :(

caffeine awards

I admit,
Drinking a redbull with a extreme energy bar from Gold Nutrition (has a lot of caffeine) after a long run late in the day is just not smart.
Almost as bad as mr Pedro Gomes and Sergio Dias that in all their knowledge of the moutain dew nutritional facts drank liters of that beverage and had clear night.
They have the king of stupidity award, I’m in second right now :P

Brasil, Brasil!

With IMAZ in the past, I had to focus on an alternative to earn my qualification to Hawaii. I had 3 choices, IM Lanzarote, IM Brasil and IM Japan. Japan was “out of reach” with a 20+ hour plane trip, so the debate was between Lanzarote and Brasil.
Each one had its pros and cons.  Brasil, of course, is a lot more attractive to me because of the language, people, and some friends from the USA who will be there racing, too. Lanzarote would be a LOT cheaper and easier travel for me, and it has a ton of slots avaliable for the pros (7 for Lanzarote versus 3 for Brasil).  With that, I would say it might be “easier” to qualify on Spanish soil. But I ended up with the Brasillian Ironman.  It’s also one week later, so I had time to get through my health issues from IMAZ and get back to decent form before racing. Besides, Horatio Caine said, “We’re going to Brasil.”

My schedule changed a bit with this - the Lisbon Half IM was canceled for me which was a big bummer, but my focus now is the Brasilian Chic…Ironman.
Besides all the training, I had four Canucks at my home for a few days for the ITU World Cup in Lisbon.  The Canadian Team, or part of it, headed up by the Olympic Champion Simon Whitfield, who is without a doubt the biggest clown of them all :D. They kicked me out of my own bedroom and almost took my mom back to Canada.

It was quite funny to see how they interact with someone that does not speak English. It seems that they didn’t have too much of a problem with it, even with me out training for a most of the day, they managed to get along pretty well and everyone was happy. I know now that they love Portuguese pastries, sweet rice, but hate the typical Portuguese codfish meal. Simon has an hilarious story about the sweet rice in is blog  http://simonwhitfield.blogspot.com/2007/05/rice-candy-for-dinner.html .

I wasn’t there but that is just hilarious.
Anyway, after being a host for Simon, Colin, Brent, Kyle and for a short time, Kirsten, the house is empty again.  I already miss those funny Canucks, maybe they will come back soon.
Back to business, Brasil it is for me.  My good friend Cathy Morgan will be there, so I won’t be alone. I have been feeling better and stronger with this small block of good training I decided to do before Brasil.  Thus, the goal will be the same as IMAZ, get a Hawaii slot. The last weeks were a bit of a struggle because I was felt like I was totally out of shape when I got back from IMAZ…as if I did a full IM.  Things are slowly coming together and the time is passing very quickly. The race is almost here. I’m hungry for some racing right now, as I haven’t seen any race action since Kona. ARRRGGGHHHH.
I will leave for Brasil on May 21, let’s see how this one goes :D
