Listen to your body concept

This sounds like a Peter Reid Quote, if it is I’m sorry. I do know that he said “body will follow your mind” once to My good friend Jonny at Hawaii .

Anyway Mind can do bad stuff also, IT can push you to the limit of pain and winners do tend to have bigger pain threshold. And of course there are Pain and pain, I have my own quote “when it hurts is when it feels good” that comes from my rowing days. That can be taken to the extreme in an injury for example. A few years ago when I started doing triathlons more seriously I got injured in a leg after a car/bike accident (yes another one), and didn’t stop because of it, tolerating immense amount of pain. That led to a bigger injury and forced stop because I could run anymore. Call it stupidity I will call it that way but that is a body will follow your mind stuff.

Of course Every one can learn from mistakes, I tend to do so and right now I when I smell injury i get very cautious.

All this to say that after my training camp in Algarve I got a kind of easy week that ended the past weekend. During that week I got some groin pain that wasn’t going away, of course we all get pain sometimes while an workout, I have some from time to time its all about being sure that isn’t too bad and eventually it will go away, this time it didn’t, so during the week I shaved all the intensity out of my schedule and got some off day from running early in this week. That seemed to do the trick as I was able to stop feeling that little pain that didn’t go away.

I’m still very cautious about it, this is, or was my first week of a 6 week block of preparation to IMAZ and I definitely don’t want get injured right now, and I smelled injury a few days ago. I have been swimming and biking full time and resumed some good sized runs (longish run) on Friday still without intensity. Hopefully its all about hammering some good workouts till IMAZ and I will be ready to go :D

stay smart…

Bonk’it baby Bonk’it

Just an updated of my final days of the 10 day bike or die block.

Saturday i had a 5000m swim, a 2:15 ride and a 1:10 run. I felt pretty cooked but it was on sunday(last day) that i felt all the km’s of the block.

Sunday i had a 80km Mountain bike race plus a 3h ride on the road bike.

The race it self lasted 5 min… i was totally bonked from start to finish and i really mean bonked. i did it anyway, it was fun to ride the course, but my dead legs didnt think it was fun at all :D.

After the “race” i went for my HTFU award, or maybe the YASS award (You Are So Stupid). I rode 3h and went home to sleep a bit :P

This week is a easy week, and i do need one, the total volume is around 27h and comparing with my last 40h week it sure looks like an easy one!!!!

Yesterday i felt totally dead by the way im a bit better today but far from what i can call decent shape

last day in algarve

Today i came back to lisbon…. :(

yesterday after that monster ride i still ran 60 min with my legs screaming for carbo’s.

Today was clearly the easy day of the week, i swam 4700meters, ran 1h with Helder, he is in bad shape :P. After a meal i drove 2:30h to lisbon and ran 1:10 with 20 min at threshold pace. and i felt great, i wasnt expecting to feel good actually, after 40h of training and 2:30h its always nice to have a decent run :D

My week is not over yet but the Training camp (7 days) was good to log a 40h of pure training :D

day 5, 6 and a few shots

yesterday night i had a 2h run with a lot of Zn3 in “Vila real de santo antonio” sport center (the town name). What a great spot to run it is, to run and to do every kind of sports.

i was a bit trashed after the run and had a really big dinner.

Today i just had a 6h ride, again, 1600m of elevation gain and the strongest wind since i am here made it a really tough ride. Helder and Sedi, the last survivors of the camp finished the ride in bad shape :P but they are HTFU’ing for IMAZ pretty well. more workouts later…

finally a cool shot from a ride, not today but cool

The myth was broken, on a kinda easy day

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbf0_RwDWCo

This was the world record that i beat today, eating a Rice Cake in less than 1 minute, i took a confortable 57 second to do it. Now i want mister Pedro gomes, AKA krep, the donut specialist to try beat my record. The myth said that nobody could eat a rice cake in less than 1 minute, at least i read that in a mag.

This happened after the swim, a 5000 meter swim with 6X 400 leaving at six minute, averaging around 5:30, witch is good for me.

After the record i went for a 1:30 run, everyone had a track session and i went for it too but just to pace most of guys, everyone except Mister sergio dias.

A pizza session with the gang and then a 2 hour ride.

tomorrow is another long ride…

In the ride we had Mr wind joining the group, he was strong. in the afternoon i was supposed to do a open water swim but didnt happened, the sea was way to bad. instead i went for a 55 min HTFU run with my an unexpected guest, rain.

Everyone is happy for now :P
